The blue-ribbon encounter in Sri Lanka schools’ rugby, the prestigious Bradby Shield fixture will come alive for its 74th successive occasion on the 21st of April and the 5th of May 2018.

One of the most anticipated events in the sporting calendar in the country, the Bradby Shield encounter is a two-legged fixture played between the schools of Trinity College Kandy and Royal College. The fixture that was inaugurated in 1945 has been conducted uninterrupted and this year’s fixture will be its 74th edition.

The 1st leg of the shield will kick off at the Royal College Sports Complex on Saturday 21st April while the second leg on the 5th of May will be at the Pallekelle Stadium. The first leg will also serve as a League.

Last year Royal College were successful in winning both legs and also taking home the shield and the Schools Rugby League. The 1st leg that kicked off at Pallekelle last year served as a league finale and it was the boys from Reid Avenue who came out on top.

Currently Trinity lead the Bradby Shield win-loss tally 39 to 32 with two editions ending as ties.

This year’s chief guests for the encounter will be the 1981 Skippers; Royal’s Sujeewa Cooray will be the chief guest for the Colombo game while the Bradby winning skipper Ravi Bandaranayake of Trinity College will grace the 2nd leg
