One of the most celebrated schools’ tournaments of the year, the 4th Thomians’ Schools Hockey 7s Tournament, is schedule to be held on 3rd June Sunday 2018 at Edward Park Hockey Grounds Matale.

Eric Hulangamuwa Secretary, Matale Old Thomians’ Hockey Association said the tournament is intended to achieve a new level of participation by leading hockey playing schools in the island and also to make hockey an entertaining and enjoyable sport.

Their main aim is to provide a feast of hockey to the fans in Matale and also to give a tremendous boost in order to bring back hockey to what it was in Matale.

This year’s tournament will see the participation of 28 under 20 teams representing leading hockey playing schools across the island; S. Thomas’, Vijaya , Zahira, Christ Church & Sirimavo Bandaranayake from Matale, Royal ,Thomians, Ananda ,Nalanda, Wesley, D.S., St. Benedict’s, St. Peters, Prince Of Wales from Colombo, Trinity ,Dharmaraja, Kingswood, St. Sylvester’s from Kandy, Dharmadutha from Badulla, Central & St. Johns from Jaffna, Maris Stella from Negambo, Joseph Vass from Wennappuwa, Gampaha Bandaranayake, Thomians’ from Matara, St. Aloysius’ & Mahinda from Galle.

The winners will receive the A.J. Wijesinghe Memorial Challenge Trophy & Cash Prize. AJ Wijesinghe was a distinguished Principal of St. Thomas’ College & former President of Sri Lanka Schools Hockey Association. The 1st runner-up will receive the late A.P.B. Harasgama Challenge Trophy & Cash Prize, named after an old boy of St. Thomas’ & former President of Sri Lanka Hockey Federation.

2nd runner-up will receive the Late Squadron Leader C.K. Hulangamuwa Challenge Trophy & Cash Prize, named in honour of a former Sri Lanka Hockey ‘cap’ & former Captain of Sri Lanka Air Force & Defense Services & Old Thomian.

Player of the tournament will receive former ‘Asian Hockey Star’ & Old Thomian Ranjith Wijekoon Challenge Trophy & Cash Prize; Up Coming player of the Tournament will receive Dampiya Wanasinghe Trophy & Cash Prize, named after the President, Sri Lanka schools Hockey Association & Principal of Dharmaraja College. Best Goal Keeper of the Tournament will receive former Sri Lanka Hockey Goal Keeper & Old Thomian M.Mahesratnam Challenge Trophy & Cash Prize.
