The SLTA courts will come alive this March as two of the biggest International Junior events in the circuit come down to Colombo with a bang. The World Junior Tennis Championship Girls/Boys and the Junior Davis Cup and Fed Cup by BNP Paribas gets underway with Sri Lanka playing host from the 3rd to the 18th March.

Sri Lanka hosts World Team Cup Asian Championship

Four men’s teams and two women’s teams representing five different countries are contesting in the BNP Paribas…

The 14/U World Junior Tennis Championship will kick proceedings off on the 3rd march with 10 teams in the mix. They will be fighting for the top two spots in the draw which will take them to Kuching, Malaysia to compete in the final qualifying event in the series. The Sri Lankan girls have earned themselves a direct ticket to the final qualifying round with their stellar performance in 2017, while 6 guest nations will play off for the top two spots during the week of play.

The Junior Davis Cup by BNP Paribas and Junior Fed Cup by BNP Paribas will kick off on the 11th of March with 15 Boys teams and 11 Girls teams taking part in the pre-qualifying event. In the Junior Davis Cup, the top two teams at the end of the week will advance to the final qualifying round in Malaysia. However, with the strength of the 2017 performance, the three top teams of the Junior Fed Cup mix will take flight to the final qualifying rounds.

The four major scaled tournaments will bring in 46 teams representing 21 nations, making it one of the largest Junior International Tournaments held in Sri Lanka. Pakistan, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Pacific Oceania and Lebanon are just some of the key countries that will take part in the tournaments.

The referee for the event Mr. Tony Glentworth of New Zealand is the referee for all the events with Sri Lankan Dharaka Ellawala as the Assistant Referee. Dinith Pathiraja will act as the tournament director.The opening ceremony of the World Junior Competition will be held on the 5th of March at the SLTA while the opening ceremony of the Junior Davis Cup and Junior Fed Cup will be held on the 12th of March at the same venue.
