The 30th edition of the Junior National Squash Championship commenced on the 12th of October at the Air Force Squash Court Complex, Rathmalana.
The tournament is the highly anticipated one for the juniors and Ritzbury has joined hands as sponsors of the event for the 12th consecutive year.
In the Under 19 Boys’ category, it was Druvinka Perera of Royal College, last year’s champion in the same category, who defeated Nevindu Lakman to book a spot in the semi-final. His opponent in the semi-final, H Balasuriya of Royal College won his quarter-final match against D Diyabedanage to enter the first semi-final. DHT Randina and M Wood will face off in the second semi. DHT Randina overcome a tough fight against N Karunarathna to reach the semi-final while M Wood defeated Q Sangani in the quarter-final to book himself a spot in the final four.
A Athapaththu, D Wawita, P Thalagala, D Ranathunga, JS Premathilaka, R Wijenayake, DJ Wawita, A Hatharaliyadda, SD Dias, SR Thilakarathna, H Coralage, A Wijesekara, RR Piyasiri, L Ahamad, S Perera went through to the 2nd round of the Under 15 boys’ category.
In the Junior-most category, the Under 9’s, TK Gunawardana and AGR Kiran were able to defeat S Jesunesan and H Karunathilaka respectively in their quarter-final fixtures to make their way to the boys’ semis.
YV Kuruppu, SD Kulathunga, T palliyagura, L Rajapakse, AN Mendis, SD Siriwardana, T Maganarachchi, A Perera advanced to the quarter-final round in the Under 17 Girls category. Mean while T Liyanage, FS Shiraz, PD Liranarachchi, CN Thebuwena, IS Booso, SM Weerabaddana, N Ganegoda, SR Mendis entered the quarter-final round in the Under 09 Girls’ Category.
