The second edition of the Inter-Club Golf Championship will commence this weekend at the picturesque Victoria Golf & Country Resort in Digana with the active participation of 6 playing clubs from around the country.
The Inter-Club title which is organized by the Sri Lanka Golf Union will take place for the second successive occasion and will be played on the 18th and 19th of March 2017. The national body under the vision of “Regeneration of Sri Lanka Golf – Vision 2020 and beyond” are looking to take the sport beyond the city limits to attract the common masses in the country.
The two oldest clubs in the country, the Royal Colombo Golf Club and the Nuwareliya Golf Club will battle it out against the Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Air Force, Sri Lanka Navy along with the hosts the Victoria Golf Club for the 2017 title.
The tournament will be carried on Stableford points on the net scores with each Club entitled to enter a maximum of 5 teams comprising of 5 players each.
Along with the 5 sub-teams that each club will put forward, an overall title will be awarded to the best team of 5 from the entire listing of golfers who are set to participate in the tournament.
The 2nd edition is exclusively sponsored by Prime Lands and speaking at the press conference, CEO Sudath Siriwardena added that Prime Lands will be empowering the sportsmanship and spirit in the upcoming club tournament.
While the first day will be the Inter Club Tournament, the day two will consist of traditional Sri Lanka Golf Union events which have been traditional draws that have been in place for over 50 years that involves players regardless of their club or representation.
