The Sri Lanka Cricket Major Emerging League Tournament kicked off today (04thNovember) with a dozen teams seen in action on the opening day.

The tournament purpose is to serve as a guideline for selections of youth from the domestic youth tournaments to the Major Emerging League and offers a pathway to First Class Level.

22 major club (tier A & B) teams and two U19 invitational teams are set to take part in the tournament which will be played in a two day format. The teams have been divided in to 8 Groups by a draw directed by SLC with every team to play each other in the same group once.

The top team of each group will qualify for the knock-out stage beginning with the quarterfinals. The tournament is set to go on for three weeks beginning on the 5th of November with 31 matches scheduled to be played around the island.
Another special playing condition will see four players over the age of 23 allowed to feature in the side while there should be a minimum of 07 players who are under 23 years of age, born on or after 1st of November 1995 in the playing 11.
