15 Coaches again the approval of the sports minister

The Minister of Sports Hon. Dayasiri Jayasekara approved 15 out of the 32 names proposed for the 2017 foreign volleyball tournament, coaches, assistant coaches and five trainers positions yesterday (24th).

15 coaches have been selected for 5 respective squads and this is notably the first time that this many appointments have been made on one occasion. Also it’s significant that, many veteran players of the sport of volleyball have been also given these postings as mentioned by the Secretary of the Volleyball Summit of Sri Lanka Mr. A.S. Nalaka.

“Many veterans as well as new faces have been included in this list. Charles Thilakarathne is one of the seniors of the sport. He is reappointed as the national men’s team coach once again. Among the new appointments the names of Chaminda Lakshan and Chaminda Kumara Jayarathne stand out”.

The fact that the new appointment approvals took time to be sanctioned by the Hon. Minister of Sports was also mentioned by Mr. Nalaka when speaking to ThePapare.com.

“The approval from the Minister was delayed due to the fact that the list of names had taken time to reach him. The list first reached the Executive Director, the Director General, Committee Section, Ministry Director and Ministry Secretary before eventually reaching the Minister himself. This process usually takes 2 weeks hence there was a delay”.
