10000 expected for 17th LSR Colombo Marathon

The 17th edition of the popular LSR Colombo Marathon will be flagged off on the 8th of October in close proximity to the Bandaranayke Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) at the Longdon place Traffic lights.

Inaugurated in 1998 the initial edition featured 28 foreign and 328 local competitors. The flagship event has grown from strength to strength with last year’s edition featuring 7500 competitors, which included 250 runners from 44 different nationalities.

This iconic race organized LSR has been recognized by the by Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) and International Association for Athletic Federations (IAAF), the governing bodies for long distance and marathons as one of the endorsed events out of 110 races around the world.

Registrations for the LSR Colombo Marathon will happen at the Colombo Race Course from 09.00 am to 04.00pm on the 07th of October. Events will be held in 06 distinct categories to encourage diverse participation and the organizers are expecting a record number of 10000 overall athletes at the event.

  • Half Marathon – 17 and above – Men / Women
  • Half Marathon – 50 and above – Men / Women (Veteran)
  • Fun Run – 10km – 15 and above – Men / Women (Schools / Other)
  • Fun Run – 5km – 15 and above – Men / Women (Schools / Other)

Course Full Marathon – 42.195 km Half Marathon – 21.097 km

This year the organizers have made a change to the route of the race from the previous editions. The new route will see the athletes travelling through the below destinations.

The measured route is to be flagged off from a close proximity of the Independence Square and proceed through Kanaththa Junction, Senanayake Mawatha, passing NelumPokuna, SrawasthiMandira, Minstry of Sports, through Buller’s Road, Jawatta Road, via Borella, Dematagoda, Peliyagoda, Wattala, around the Hamilton Canal terminating at Dungalpitiya
