The 2nd edition of the ICBT Inter University Sevens is set to crash the Royal College Sports Complex on the 24th of August 2019 with 10 renown universities ready to clash head-to-head. 

After organising a successful inaugural tournament last year with over 12 teams taking part, the ICBT Campus Sevens 2019 edition looks to take the game to another level within the Universities and is set to become the flagship inter-university sevens tournament due to its immense popularity.

The media briefing to officially announce the teams and set the draw for the tournament took place at the ICBT auditorium earlier this evening. Gracing the occasion, ICBT Chairman Dr. Jagath Alwis, CEO Dr. Sampath Kannangara, Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) President Mr. Lasitha Gunarathna, Tournament Director Mr. Dilroy Fernando and the ICBT Marketing Director Mr. Anura Gamage were among the dignitaries of the event. 

Sharing his thoughts regarding the tournament, Dr. Jagath Alwis emphasized on the importance of extracurricular activities for the development of a complete well-balanced student. He went onto add that through sports, a student could inculcate the skills of teamwork, determination and commitment, all which are essentials for an all-round performer. He also spoke of how the management looks forward to inviting foreign universities to partake in this event and turn this local tournament into an internationally recognized event.

Praising ICBT for their intentions and thoughts in organising such an event, SLR President Mr. Lasitha Gunarathna went on to add the value of having a tournament of this sort in the calendar year whilst former Rugby Referee and Tournament Director Mr. Dilroy Fernando stressed on the fact that the country lacked tournaments like this until ICBT introduced this event. 

Teams will play for the Cup, Plate and Bowl championships as the 10 teams will be categorised into two groups. Defending Champions ICBT will definitely look to dominate the tournament this year as well, after winning convincingly last year.
